Mumbai-Goa via Coastal Road

Mumbai-Goa via coastal Road-

Hello Mumbaikar, are you ready for road trip? Then let’s plan a memorable trip. When we think about bike trip, the first destination comes in mind is Ladakh. But believe me in a road trip destination doesn’t matter much because “the greatest part of road trip isn’t arriving at your destination but is all about the wild stuff that happens along the way” I read so many blogs and everyone saying about how they reach Goa via NH66 or Mumbai-Pune-Kolhapur highway but there is another way to Goa which is one the most magnificent beautiful road in Western Ghat of Maharashtra that is “COSATAL WAY (SAGARI MAHAMARG- MSH4)”

Best time- Aug-Feb, I personally feel January is the best time to

visit because of weather is pleasant, little hotter in day time but colder at night, color of sea changes to blue to green with sand on virgin beaches, also because of less tourist you can see actual beauty of place with fresh food and good resorts.

This journey will take you through Alibaug-Shrivardhan-Ganpatipule-Ratnagiri-Malvan before your final destination Goa. This coastal way passes through small villages, lush green forest, virgin clean beaches and rivers along the way right upto goa.

DAY-1-

Start your journey as soon as possible and try to get out of Mumbai before traffic jam and straight away follow Alibaug or Vadkhal route via Panvel. It will take nearly 2 hour(76km) to reach Vadkhal Naka and From Vadkhal you can take;

Option 1- Vadkhal- Alibaug-Murud-Shrivardhan road (187km)

Places of Interest- Alibaug beach and Kolaba fort, Varsoli beach Alibaug, Kashid beach, Murud-Janjira fort, Birla Temple.

Option 2 Vadkhal- Shrivardhan (via Mhasala road) (106 km)

Shrivardhan is an ancient place of historical importance with ancient Lord Shiva Temple which is a famous Tourist destination.

(if Alibaug and Murud-Janjira you were already visited then if want you can skip and directly you can join Shrivardhan road via Vadakhal-Mhasala road as per option 2)

DAY-2-

From Shrivardhan head towards Bagmandale Jetty to take ferry (It carries all type of vehicles. Ferry service- 6am-10pm) It will take you to Bankot, from Bankot go to Dabhol Jetty (78km-2 hours) from Dabhol jetty take ferry to Dhopave and be at Guhagar for night stay. (15km- 30 min)

In this Journey you can explore beautiful untouched villages (Bankot-Kelashi-Aade-Anjarle-Harne) and enjoy the peaceful Anjarle beach and ultimate local seafood at very cheap price.

DAY-3-

Get up early in morning to enjoy sunrise at Guhagar beach and after breakfast head towards Tawsal (30km) for ferry ride to the Jaigad Jetty and from there head to Malvan-Devbaug-Tarkarli(233km) for night stay.

Most recommended hotel in Devbag(Tarkali)- Shri Swami Samarth Beach Resort

This is the most scenic route of entire journey as it takes you to the famous Ganpatipule Temple along virgin Aare Ware beach and riding on Aare Ware road is the ultimate experience as it gives the stunning view of Kokan coast and western ghat. Follow the coastal road to reach Devbaug-Tarkarli. Jaigad jetty–Ganpatipule(19km)-Vijaydurga(126km)-Devgad(29km)-Malvan(49km)-Devbaug(9km).

DAY-4-

From Devbaug-Vengurla(53km)-Sawantwadi(25km)-Calangut(58km)

Devbaug (DEV+BAUG) in Marathi it means garden made by god and it justifies its name by its natural beauty. This is the perfect holiday destination as it serves you best watersports best food and best location. Everything there is just perfect. From Devbaug heading towards Vengurla, Sawantwadi upto Goa you will see lush green foliage mainly of Cashew, Mango, Coconut and different kinds of berry trees and many picture-perfect beaches and while enjoying this beauty unknowingly you will enter the meeting point of races, religions and cultures also known as a land of romance, scenic beauty and architectural splendours of Temples and Churches. Yes, you are right! you are in ‘GOA’.

NOTE-

  1. This entire route can be covered in minimum 2days but if you really wish to experience the beauty and purity of Kokan, you can spend more time on every step of your journey if you don’t have any time restriction.
  2. Do not worry about fuel station and ATMs as it is available throughout the route.
  3. Beware of ferry schedules.
  4. Try to stick to the MSH4 route (Sagari Mahamarg coastal way), any wrong turn may land you on the NH66.

Wish you happy journey and Have a safe ride
